She attended the Arts Educational School studying all kinds of stagecraft before going to White Lodge at the age of 13 to give concentration to ballet. Darcy English Ballet Dancer who considered one of the best dancers in the history of the country. She now a judge in Britain’s Strictly Comes Dancing.

Darcy Bussell Retired:

Darcy Bussell a retired English ballerina, and currently one of the four judges on the BBC reality show Strictly Come Dancing. Bussell widely acclaimed as one of the great British ballerinas. Her spouse’s name is Angus Forbes to whom she married in 1997. Phoebe Olivia Forbes and Zoe Sophia Forbes are her children.  Her popular movies are “The Prince of the Pagodas, Great Pas de Deux and Winter Dreams.”

Darcy’s words about the ballet are “Ballet was my life, but now it’s my family first.” The late Kenneth Macmillan had an observed technique of Bussell while she a pupil and cast her in the principal role of ballet Concerto for 1986 school performance. During her first season with Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, he selected her for the leading role in the Prince of Pagodas, his new work for the Royal Ballet and she ultimately transferred between the two companies in Sep 1988. Darcy Bussell gave her joining to Royal Ballet as a soloist, becoming a first soloist in Sep 1989. Just 3 months later, on the first night of Prince of the Pagodas, being promoted again to the status of principal. Her age was just 20 at that time.

The success of Darcy Bussell:

She created two major roles for Macmillan before his death; Princess Rose in the Price of the Pagodas and Masha in the winter Dreams, which premiered in Feb 1991. Her other roles in Macmillan’s ballets include the title roles in Manon and Romeo and Juliet., which were the leading roles in Song of Earth and Elite Syncopations, Agnus Dei’s role in Requiem, Mitzi Casper in Mayerling and Mathilde in Anastasia. Her classical repertory includes Odile in Swan Lake, Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker and title roles in Giselle and Raymonda Act III.

She also danced in the title role in Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella, Monotones II, Sacred Love in Les illuminations and the pas de deux. Apart from Macmillan’s roles, she also played significant roles in Twyla’s first work for the royal ballet, Mr. Worldly Wise, Matthew Hart’s Dances with Death. Both the Prince of the Pagodas and the Queen Mother’s 90th Birthday, Bussell was in the role of Gamzatti.


In 1992, in Winter Dreams she danced with Tchaikovsky pas de deux in the Winter Gala televised in 1993. Bussell’s other TV performances include French and Saunders, The Vicar of Dibley, the House and Clive Anderson’s Program. Darcy’s last performance with the Royal Bullet broadcast lives on BBC2. In Dec 1990, she voted Dancer of the year by the readers of Dance and Dancer Magazine. She with the Variety Club of Great Britain’s Sir James Award for most devoted newcomers of 1990 and week later with the Evening Standard Ballet Award for 1990.

She selected as the joint winner of the Cosmopolitan Achievement Award in the Performing Arts category in April 1991, In Oct 1991, she at the Gala des Etoiles held in Paris and featuring leading dancers from the world. In 2001 and 2002 Season:

She produced her debut as a significant couple with Jonathan Cope in Stephen’s Beyond Bach and Lead pas de deux Girl in William Forsythe’s in the middle, somewhat elevated. During 2005 and 2006  season she guested with Balleto Della Scala in Italy and also danced in the Roland Petit’s Le Jeune Homme et La Mort in Milan.

She also played her role in Tv commercials for American Express and Lloyds TSB and photographed by photographers including Mario Testino and John Swanell. She also did modeling assignments with Marks and Spencers, where she featured the “View From” range during 2002 and 2004.

Personal Life of Darcy Bussell:

Darcey married to Angus Forbes and her two daughters. Phoebe Olivia was born on June 3, 2001, and Zoe Sophia was born on Feb 10, 2004. Darcey got retirement from the Royal Ballet on June 8, 2007, with a performance of a song of the Earth. The last song being broadcast live on BBC.


Darcy Bussell is also keeping her career in Television, books, and modeling. She supports numerous British and international charities and dance institutions. Bussell performed major classical roles a lot of times throughout her career including Masha in Winter Dreams and princes’ role in The Prince of Pagodas. In total, she performed more than 80 different roles, and 17 roles created for her. In Sleeping Beauty alone, Darcy performed Aurora in four different productions. One of which was Sir Anthony Dowell’s productions which she started in Washington in front of President Clinton.

Another supported reason for her popularity is that Bussell made several guest appearances with the New York City Ballet. Her retirement was a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet. In 2012, she took part in the Summer Olympics ending the ceremony. Leading a troupe of two hundred ballerinas and four male dancers from a Royal Ballet. The performances called “The Spirit of the Flame.” She also got an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford.

In May 2015, Darcy Bussell was a presenter and dance expert. The grand final of the BBC young dancers competition. In 2016, Bussell launched a dance fitness brand called DDMIX “Diverse Dance Mix.” She got the OBE Award in 1995 and CBE in 2006.
